Our SEG Student Chapter has successfully held the 1st SEG Geoscience Workshop in Ukraine.
The event was split into 2 days
1 day – Saturday 15th of February. this was a day for the high scholars. There were around 40 pupils from different schools and forms. Organizers invited Helene Costea, a student from University of Leeds, who presented the perks of being a geoscientist from her perspective. We also showed them a presentation about SEG and what our chapter does. Next step – we showed them how geophysical equipment works – seismic, radio metric and UAV. For the seismic group we set up a tournament which we called Thor. So, the strongest 3 shots of hammer received a present from us. Also, we brought them after the field practice to the audience where they asked us a lot about SEG and how to become a SEG participant during high school.
2 day – 1st SEG Geoscience Workshop in Ukraine. We gathered around 150 people from various countries and universities, who came to Kyiv to see the real application of geosciences in the real world. We got 5 companies presenting themselves (Schlumberger, Weatherford, 2 local geoscience companies (DTEK, Serhii Dumenko), and 1 scientific company who does geophysics in Antarctica), and also 4 geoscience student chapters ( SEG, AAPG, SPE, EAGE). Apart from companies’ presentations we also had a virtual conference session, where 10 SEG representatives throughout the world were presenting their topics about geosciences. And we also made a lottery for the participants of the event – 15 prizes starting from caps, stickers and mugs and the main prize was a free trip for 2 people to Carpathian Mountains. Overall we received a lot of positive feedback. We haven’t seen any person who seemed upset, and we think that this workshop was an amazing Kick-start for other geoscience events. Also, we got 20 applications for our SEG student chapter
Organizing team wants to share tremendous appreciation to SEG for supporting student endeavors and promoting geoscience to Ukrainian community.
We want to share some photos of the event that the photographers have made. Feel free to share those with everyone.
